Marco Annuziata, the Chief Economist and Executive Director of  Global Market Insights at General Electric, talks about how we are in the beginning of a new era: the Industrial Internet. Alike the Industrial Revolution an the Internet revolution, it has the potential to disrupt the way we live and work.

The cost of sensors and data storage has decreased significantly in the last few years fueling the  massification of industrial analytics and leading to significant efficiency gains and energy savings in the most different fields.

Unscheduled maintenance is one of the main causes of businesses downtime. In the aviation industry this is responsible for 10% of the delays and cancellations. The use of smart sensing is enabling the technicians to monitor the status of the components and schedule preventive maintenance. This has the potential to reduce the downtime to nearly zero and save millions of dollars.
